About the Author
John Carroll is currently Director, Geostorage Processing Engineering for Gas Liquids Engineering, Ltd. in Calgary. With more than 20 years of experience, he supports other engineers with software problems and provides information involving fluid properties, hydrates and phase equilibria. Prior to that, he has worked for Honeywell, University of Alberta as a seasonal lecturer, and Amoco Canada as a Petroleum Engineer. John has published a couple of books, sits on three editorial advisory boards, and he has authored/co-authored more than 60 papers. He has trained many engineers on natural gas throughout the world, and is a member of several associations including SPE, AIChE, and GPAC. John earned a Bachelor of Science (with Distinction) and a Doctorate of Philosophy, both in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta. He is a registered professional engineer in the province of Alberta and New Brunswick, Canada.

An excellent review of gas hydrates!

This book is a welcome addition to my library. It provides a useful introduction to the subject of gas hydrates. I especially like the discussion of the tools for predicting hydrate formation. The discussion on combatting hydrates is also very useful. I recommend this book to all engineers working in the natural gas business.

Gr 6 Up—At the age of 15, Romero became the youngest person to climb the Seven Summits, the tallest mountain on each continent. He set this goal for himself at age nine, when he saw a mural on the wall of his elementary school and wondered what it would be like to stand on each of those peaks. Other parents might postpone such lofty aspirations, but Jordan's father and stepmother, extreme adventure racers who compete all over the world, encouraged him. Neighbors, friends, and corporations helped with sponsorships and fund-raisers, while Romero's parents trained and accompanied him. From their first climb, Mount Kilimanjaro, where he set the record as a 10-year-old, to Everest at a record-setting 13, each peak presented unique and more difficult challenges. LeBlanc has written about mountaineering and of Everest, but Romero's voice comes through, as he excitedly describes, in first-person narrative, his emotions, hardships, occasional doubts, and reactions to foreign countries and cultures. It takes a certain amount of self-confidence to attempt and to persevere in the face of such an overwhelming task, and it is obvious that Romero has the bravado to do what many critics told him he couldn't. He continues to inspire young people to lead healthier lives and to follow their dreams with his 50-state "Find Your Everest tour," speaking about the importance of spending time outdoors, as well as climbing the highest peak in each state. Jordan Romero, born July 12, 1996, is an American mountain climber who on May 22, 2010, at the age of thirteen, became the youngest person to climb Mount Everest. By December 25, 2011, at the age of fifteen, he became the youngest person to climb to the summit of the highest mountains on each of the seven continents. He is now touring the United States, climbing the tallest peak in each of the fifty states. He lives in Big Bear Lake, California.

Very good, inspiring book for all ages

I don't know what it is about books about mountain climbing that appeals to me but I love them. No Summit Out of Sight is no exception. It is well written and entertaining. I know the seven (eight) summits have to be very different but, when I first picked up the book, I was afraid they would all seem the same to someone like me who knows next to nothing about mountains.. Not at all. Jordan and Linda have given "personalities" to every mountain. The thing that really amazed me was how almost effortless their goal seemed to be. For instance, I've read about so many people trying to summit Everest and having to give up and try again because of one reason or another. They had hardships of course (like the avalanche) and doubts that could have aborted their goal, but, they worked through all that. This is mentioned in particular near the end of the book. One thing about the book I didn't like was how fast they came down from Everest. OK, so maybe it was totally uneventful, but, after having said his Dad's hand was frozen and wondering how he'd negotiate the ladder, well, I wondered how he did, but it wasn't mentioned. One paragraph gets them from Camp 1, to Camp 2, to Camp 3. Surely Jordan had thoughts (and needed to concentrate) coming down. How did they manage with how exhausted they were?

Overall, this is a wonderful book. Makes me wonder how I'd do on Everest! (This from someone in Virginia who almost hides under the bed at the first snowflake!) Cold and snow are not my thing. But, I loved my vicarious adventure with Jordan. It is a very inspiring book and I hope many young people will read it.

Jordan Romero was fascinated by a poster in his elementary school of the Seven Summits, the highest mountain peaks on each of the seven continents. When he was nine years old, he announced to his parents that he wanted to climb the Seven Summits and he wanted to start training immediately. Jordan was familiar with what training involved; his father and stepmother were adventure racers. They traveled the world racing by foot, bike, canoe, kayak and even camel! After much discussion and consideration, his parents eventually gave their stamp of approval. On July 22, 2006 Jordan ascended his first summit - Mount Kilimanjaro at an elevation of 19,341 feet. He was ten years old and laid claim to a world record as the youngest documented climber to make the summit. He was thirteen years old on May 22, 2010 when he made the summit of Mt. Everest at 29,029 feet . This was also a world record. On December 24, 2011 at the age of fifteen, Jordan Romero became the youngest person ever to successfully climb the Seven Summits. This is his story.

What a motivational read! I will have to think twice next time I don't want to crawl out of bed at 6:30am to take a nice warm shower and then hop in my car to drive to my heated/air conditioned job. Jordan climbed out of tents at 18,000 feet to face gale force winds and temperatures of 40 degrees below zero. He hiked through two feet of new snow in whiteout conditions. He has experienced an avalanche first hand, tossed and turned and holding on to life by one single rope that he fervently hoped wouldn't break. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about his adventures, frustrations and joys as he relentlessly strove toward his goal. If you like true adventure stories, then give this book a try!

I will also recommend it to our English department for a class read

I am a K-12 public school librarian in a rural area of NYS and am constantly reading YA literature. This book is on the top of my list to share with students come this fall. I will also recommend it to our English department for a class read. Like many readers, I find personal accounts of those who climb our planet's extreme mountains to be alluring. However, this book goes so much further in exploring the self-motivation and power of the human spirit to endure and triumph. Many tears dropped on the pages of this (library!) book as I found myself really getting to know this kid (!). Not only does he share the intricacies of each climb, he shares his self-discovery and reveals the layers he works through to become a man. Each of us has the potential to "do something" and Jordan's story is so, so inspirational. If you have a young person in your life, this is a book worth recommending or purchasing for them. Thank you, Mr. Romero, for sharing it with the world.

This ''Solutions Manual'' doesnt live up to its name. It has only a few problems covered from each chapter and mostly (from what I've seen) the problems are all odd numbered (If you have the Textbook, you already have all odd numbered numerical solutions in it).I was seraching for a complete Solutions Manual and because this is the only one accompaning Matter and Interactions I though it would be just that. My mistake.

About the Author
Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad bin Tufailal-Qaisi ("Ibn Tufail") was born about 1100 A.D. in a small town named WadiAsh north-east of Granada, in what was then Islamic Spain. Because of his first name, he became known in the Christian world as Abubacer. He was a man of many gifts: philosopher, mathematician, poet, and court physician. The works of his best known pupil, Ibn Rushd (Averro�s), exerted a great influence upon both Jewish and Christian thinkers. Ibn Tufail died in Marrakesh in 1185 A.D.

This is one of my favorite books of all time

This is one of my favorite books of all time. I wish it were still in print. I've bought it for myself 3 times now because I've lost copies when moving, and also have ordered it for 2-3 friends/relatives...But because it is out of print and all you can get is used copies, the price keeps going up dramatically. The cheapest one I could get just now for my brother was over $30-- USED! There were some copies selling for as much as $90!

I'm wondering why some publishing company-- or even a couple of them joining forces, if they're too broke to do it alone-- doesn't/don't buy the rights to this and start printing it again. They could make a KILLING!

It covers the Freemasonic influence on political Islam, Traditionalism in relation to Freemasonry and Islam, the Freemasonic origins of Black Nationalism, and anti-Freemasonic thought in Islam. I highly recommend it to scholars of religion and esotericism.

A Lamp not of the East or the West

As an artist, designer, cultural commentator, and noted scholar and chronicler of the Western esoteric tradition, Angel Millar is known from his previous work in soberly elucidating the historical context of that tradition for the benefit of a public inundated by sensationalism regarding the topic. In his new and most engaging book thus far, The Crescent and The Compass, he reveals a perpetual stream of philosophical dialogue, mutual cultural influence and discreet spiritual cross-pollination between the hidden world of Islamic mystical fraternities (and their more open cultural agents) and Western hermetic secret societies and fraternal orders extending from at least the Middle Ages until the present day. This book is poised to shatter many misconceptions, revealing an Islamic milieu of both tradition and tolerance which was at one time pervasive from North Africa to Persia and through the Ottoman Empire to Afghanistan. At the same time, the surprising esoteric roots of several modern radical figures and movements are explored. This book may well influence many to reconsider the widely promoted false dichotomies based on the "clash of civilizations" model or the supposed incompatibility of orthodox purity with initiatory mysticism, and in doing so reopen higher paths of metaphysical (and perhaps even metapolitical) dialogue. The Crescent and the Compass is highly recommended to those interested in deeper cultural aspects of geopolitics, as well as students of historical esoteric movements and the "perennialist" school.

Recommended for those interested in East and West relations in general, not necessarily only with relation to Freemasonry and Is

As an active Freemason born and living in the United States whose forefathers hail from Aleppo, Syria, the relationship between the Islamic world and Freemasonry interests me on quite personal level, but even more so because Islamic lands have been arguably the most anti-Masonic regions of the planet. Not much has been written on this subject, as Masonic activities in Islamic countries require actual secrecy for the sake of safety for those involved, making “The Crescent and the Compass” a distinct book. While its title seems to promise only a narrow research into the relationship between Freemasonry and the Islamic world, it quickly becomes evident that this study necessitates a broader exploration of the relationship between Occident and Orient in general, which Millar successfully delivers that in roughly two hundred very densely packed pages. The reader who may be unacquainted with either subject besides sensationalist boogey-man campfire tales that are so often told will likely find this broader study immensely useful, and I hope that it serves to dispel some long lasting fears. Millar approaches both subject sincerely and truthfully, paints a very clear picture, and demonstrates how both Freemasonry and Islam share common objectives and have served one another toward those ends throughout the centuries. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the cultural, political, and spiritual relations between East and West.

About the Author
Michael Gallagher is associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Trinity College at the University of Dublin. He is co-author of Candidate Selection in Comparative Selection (London, 1988), The Referendum Experience in Europe (Basingstoke, 1996), and Politics in the Republic of Ireland, 3rd Edition (London, 1999). His current research interests include a study of the backgrounds, attitudes and roles of members of political parties. Michael Laver holds the chair of Political Science at Trinity College, University of Dublin. He previously taught at Queens University, Belfast, the University of Liverpool, University College Galway and has been a visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin, Harvard University and Duke University. Recent books include Private Desires, Political Action (London, 1997), Playing Politics: The Nightmare Continues (Oxford, 1997) and (with Kenneth A. Shepsle) Making and Breaking Governments (New York, 1996). He is currently working on the impact of intra party politics on inter party coalition bargaining, and on the development of more dynamic models of government formation. Peter Mair holds the chair of Comparative Politics in Leiden University in the Netherlands and previously taught at the University of Limerick, the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, the University of Manchester, and the European University Institute, Florence. He is the author (with Stefano Bartolini) of Identity, Competition, and Electoral Availability (Cambridge, 1990), which was awarded the Stein Rokkan Prize, and of Party System Change (Oxford, 1997). The Worst

Had to buy this book for a course I was taking, and it was awful. Painfully repetitive and they used far too many abbreviations, many of which were never explained. The online access is just as useless at the book itself. I'll be glad to be rid of this book when my course is over!

Convoluted. A concise volume would be preferred.

This was a required text for a graduate course in nursing. While there were some very important concepts covered in the text and while I appreciated the focus on informatics for nurses, it was very poorly written. Even the simplest concepts were presented in long, drawn-out sentences and paragraphs spotted with grammatical and punctuation errors. Did the editors even read this text? I will strongly recommend that my professor use a different book next time around. If I had the time, I'd edit this book and send it to the authors, so they could come out with the concise version for their next edition. I hope they will hire a great editor with a large delete key to whip this text into shape! Then it will be a very useful text for nursing students!

This book is difficult to read because it intertwines common sense, almost elementary, statements with out of date terms. Really not valuable for most nurses in today's high tech clinical practice settings.
